- In Australia, a white dress has been a traditional wedding dress for several ages, and it is still popular. Whiteness is the symbol of hope and joy. - In Sweden, the bride's mother gives her a, golden coin as a gift. Afterwards, the bride puts it into her right shoe. The father gives her a silver coin, which she hides in her left shoe. This is the way that they make sure that their daughter will never become poor.
- The custom of having the best man derives fromGermany. In ancient times, aman had to kidnap his future wife from the neighbouring village. For this purpose he used to take his strongest friend with him, who helped him in kidnapping. Then, his strong friend used to stand behind the groom during the wedding ceremony in order to protect him from the bride’s family possible attack.
- According to Spanish wedding traditions, the bride used to wear (and actually still wears) a black silky dress and a black, thouroughly woven veil. The groom, in turn, wears a shirt, which is embroidered by hand by his future wife.
- In Italy, it is a bad luck if the bride wears gold on her wedding day until the moment the wedding rings are exchanged between the couple.
- A girl getting married in Switzerland wears a traditional wreath or a crown, which symbolizes her virginity. After the wedding ceremony the wreath is burned. If the crown burns quickly, the bride is considered lucky.
